Carolina Panthers schedule and analysis | #KeepPounding

The NFL announced the official schedule will be released Thursday, May 12 8 p.m. EST, but here are the opponents and analysis of the upcoming season for the Carolina Panthers.

The official schedule will be posted on Thursday, but on the Panthers website it already lists the team’s home and away opponents.

Let’s examine the nine home games first, speculate about the home record, do the away games, then give reasons as to why the records shape to be this way.

Home games are as follows in no order: Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos.

The Panthers can go 4-5 at home with losses to the Bucs, Cardinals, 49ers, Steelers, and Broncos. There is a case to be made about the Steelers and Broncos possibly. For Pittsburgh it comes down to the quarterback situation, who starts and how the system goes for the Steelers at that point in the season. Denver is a similar case where it acquired Russell Wilson, and it can be argued he propels the team forward, it can also be argued he does not make that team a contender at all. On the safe side these are chalked up as losses, but the case can be made the Panthers may be significantly better this year and beat both teams. Record at home can either be 4-5, or 6-3.

Away games will be trimmed, the division opponents, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, and New York Giants.

Carolina realistically can go 3-5 with the three wins being the Falcons, Saints and Giants. Seattle may be much worse without Wilson, in fact it is certain with Drew Lock, so the Panthers may win. Joe Burrow and the Bengals may have been a fluke and regress significantly this season, so this may be another win. Cincinnati is a huge enigma heading into 2022 with a lot to prove and a chip on its’ shoulder.

Carolina on the road could go 5-3, best case.

Combine these records and Carolina can go 7-10 or optimistically, maybe too optimistic 11-6. But this is the Panthers, so it is not a shock if it walks away with an abysmal record of less than five wins.

The Carolina Panthers will be interesting to watch in 2022 given the offensive line improvements and developing quarterback situation. It can propel forward through a better line and better play, or the line is underdeveloped and the season wastes away.
