Arizona Cardinals Spotlight: Garrett Williams Emerging as Elite Slot Corner

In a league where the slot cornerback position is becoming increasingly valuable, Garrett Williams is quietly establishing himself as one of the very best. Entering his third NFL season, Williams flew under the radar in 2024 despite producing numbers that rivaled, and in some cases exceeded, the league’s top defenders.

Last year, Williams posted a -8.6 completion percentage over expected, ranking second among all cornerbacks, trailing only Kamari Lassiter. When targeted, quarterbacks completed just 55.9% of passes, the best mark among all slot corners with a minimum of 300 coverage snaps. His -5.1 receptions over expected also led the position, and his -0.20 EPA per target tied him for sixth overall.

Williams’ ability to stick stride for stride with shifty slot receivers who often feast on quick, high-percentage throws makes him a unique defensive asset for the Cardinals. While he still has room to improve in his tackling and run-game fits due to the physical demands of playing so close to the line of scrimmage, his coverage skills are already Pro Bowl-worthy.

As the 2025 season approaches, do not be surprised if Garrett Williams becomes a household name in NFL secondary discussions because the tape and the stats already prove he belongs there.
