Joint practices are usually about preparation, but sometimes a little bulletin-board material spices things up, and that seems to be the case as the Detroit Lions host the Miami Dolphins this week.
Linebacker Grant Stuard is not mincing words about the Dolphins, telling Sports Illustrated’s John Maakaron, “I don’t know if they’re ready, I’m gonna keep it a stack. I’ve played at other places and played against that team last year, and joint practiced against that team twice when I was in Tampa. I don’t know if they practice how we practice. I’m excited to see our guys for sure, and I’m excited to get out there to do something against somebody else, who doesn’t know every in and out of what we’re doing.”

Stuard’s comments add a little drama to what would normally be a straightforward set of joint sessions. The Lions and Dolphins are set to practice Wednesday and Thursday at the Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park, Michigan, giving both teams a chance to test themselves against unfamiliar schemes and different competition.
While joint practices are often more about fine-tuning than fireworks, Stuard’s words suggest that at least one Lion is ready to bring intensity and a little edge to the sessions.
