Atlanta Falcons Suffer Major Blow With Kaleb McGary Out for the Season

The Atlanta Falcons have finalized their 53-man roster, but the process came with tough injury news, a trade, and a wave of roster cuts.

Injury Report

The Falcons’ offensive line took a devastating hit as starting right tackle Kaleb McGary was placed on injured reserve with a lower leg injury, ending his 2025 season before it begins. Depth took another hit with offensive lineman Storm Norton landing on short-term IR, while defensive lineman Ta’Quon Graham joined him. At linebacker, Troy Andersen was placed on the physically unable to perform list, and Malik Verdon was placed on the non-football injury list.

Trade News

To address the losses up front, Atlanta acquired offensive tackle Michael Jerrell from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a conditional 2027 seventh-round pick, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Jerrell brings added depth to a suddenly thin offensive line group.

Roster Cuts

The Falcons made 22 cuts to reach the 53-man roster limit. Among them was quarterback Easton Stick, who now hits free agency. Kicker Lenny Krieg was also waived, though the move is procedural. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Krieg remains in Atlanta’s plans via the International Player Pathway program but must pass through waivers before potentially returning.

What It Means

Losing McGary is a massive setback for an offense that was built on balance and power up front. The Jerrell trade helps patch the hole, but Atlanta’s depth on the offensive line is already being tested before Week 1. The front office and coaching staff will now rely heavily on young players and reserves to step up if the Falcons are going to stay competitive in 2025.
