Colts Hit With Trio of Injuries as Preseason Marches On

The Indianapolis Colts are dealing with a fresh wave of injury concerns as training camp continues.

Head coach Shane Steichen told reporters Thursday that wide receiver Josh Downs exited practice early with a hamstring injury. Downs’ status moving forward will be closely monitored, as the second-year receiver is expected to play a significant role in the offense this season.

In addition, the Colts have placed wide receiver D.J. Montgomery on injured reserve, cutting his preseason short. The loss further thins a position group that is already battling for depth and consistency behind Michael Pittman Jr.

On the defensive side, Steichen confirmed that defensive end Samson Ebukam is managing a back injury. While no timetable has been given for his return, Ebukam’s absence would be a big blow to a pass rush that leaned heavily on his production last season.

The Colts will now have to juggle recovery timelines with the need to evaluate roster spots as preseason action ramps up.
